It’s now the end of January, which means that it had almost been one month since 2023 has been underway.
It’s also a good time to pause, and to check-in with yourself, asking questions such as: “Have I been sticking with my New Year’s resolution?” “If I gave up on it, why?” and “If I did stick with it, what can I improve upon?” Taking a moment to ask these questions remains important, as the first month of 2023 concludes.
As is widely known, many people tend to throw in the towel, literally, when their New Year’s Resolution doesn’t happen quickly enough. For instance, committing oneself to some sort of exercise, dieting, or weight loss regimen is a common resolution. But by March, maybe that gym bag begins to gather some dust, and the hope of a new year’s transformation has been forgotten.
But remember . . . it’s never too late to change your life.
If you do find yourself in a position where you gave up on your 2023 New Year’s Resolution, don’t fret . . . There are some basic things you can do to get back on track.
- Time Management. Time management can be the subject of a blog all on its own. When the subject arises, it may induce feelings of boredom or resentment. But, in fact, time management is a skill that can be learned and mastered. One of the simplest things that you can do to have better time management is create a calendar. Additionally, it’s good practice to schedule “structed time off,” where you anticipate the need for a break, but noting it in a calendar can help get you back on track. Try it.
- At a glance, committing to something may sound easy, but it may not be. At the moment of making a commitment, think about all the things you need to do in order to keep that commitment. Use meditation to visualize yourself accomplishing you goal, and note the positive feelings that may arise. Use this as motivation to keep your commitment.
- Follow through. Following through on your commitment is one of the most critical things that you can do. This final step is often where many people fail at achieving their goals. At this point, the planning is done, the prepping is done, and there is not much left to do than to follow through. Following through on your commitment is where the hard work gets done.
Although one might be able to add many more things to this list, keeping things simple, in this regard, can help one stick to their goals. Having a plan is good, but having a plan that is either not realistic or too complex can get in the way. Finally, as 2023 continues, remind yourself daily of what you want, and plan how you can get it.
